Established in 1989 to provide the continued operation of freshwater, wastewater collection and saltwater distribution services across Majuro Atoll. The company charter vested the operation of the Republic of Marshall Islands government assets with the company for their continued maintenance, repair and improvement.
The original water system in the DUD area of Majuro was constructed by the US Army Corp of Engineers in the early 1970s and has seen maintenance, rehabilitation, and expansion projects throughout the years thru the generous support of the Japanese government and others. The Laura wells and distribution systems were developed in the early 1990s and provide a backup supply of water during the dry season. Normally, water is collected from the airport runway and various groundwater wells to supply the major urban areas.
The sanitary sewer and saltwater flushing systems was constructed in two phases, with the sewer collection and saltwater system constructed in the late 1980s in the DUD area and the provision of saltwater flushing services occurring in the late 1990s from bridge at Long Island to the airport.
